While everyone has been talking about The Dark Knight as Heath Ledger's last film, as of now it is not. At the time of his death he was in the middle of filming a Terry Gilliam production called The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. They'd apparently shot enough of Ledger's scenes to finish the film, but had to employ other actors to play different aspects of the character as he travels through different dimensions. Quoth IMDB:
Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell have agreed to complete Heath Ledger's role. The film's fantasy premise, and some clever rewrites, will let the actors play a man whose appearance changes as he travels between imaginary worlds.
Yep. It will be released in 2009.
I would feel kind of like this movie was only scrapped together in Heath's memory and can only suffer from the untimely loss of the lead actor, if it weren't this director. I'm intrigued by the fantasy/storytelling premise, since Gilliam did something similar with The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.
