Sooo tomorrow I'm supposed to basically go take a written exam to qualify for a job that involves scoring written exams. I'm weirdly nervous about this. It's awesome to find something that you actually are supposed to have a four-year degree to qualify for (seems like most jobs make undergrads either under- or over-qualified) and is, you know, pretty related to what I majored in, but I can't help having my Inadequate English Major insecurities over the whole thing. Like, hell, I'll volunteer the information that I write my ass off all the time and that I got an English degree, but from my experience I have no clue at all if I am necessarily good at writing when it comes to the technical, formal stuff.

A couple links:

-I meant to share this the day I saw it, but waldorph wrote an awesome post on THE SUBJECT OF MOVIE AUs/FUSIONS. I couldn't agree with it more, though I should really shut my mouth, because I've never gotten around to writing one. But hey, I've THOUGHT about it.

-I'm not nearly familiar enough with the world of comics, but I think some may appreciate this: 7 Superheroes Who Should Just Be Acknowledged As Bisexual.

Fandom: Star Trek XI
Rating: R for language, violence and non-explicit sex (see other warnings.)

Genres: drama/dystopian sci-fi/romance.
Summary: In events that parallel TOS' "Mirror, Mirror," four members of the Enterprise find themselves in a mirror universe but become stranded there. After covertly abandoning the Imperial fleet they seek anonymous refuge on Earth, eventually settling in the fragile autonomy of a region populated by resistant Terrans and former slaves.
Warnings: Strong violence, many references/incidents of slavery and oppression, mentions of dubcon and attempted child rape, minor character death.
Word Count: ~61000
Note: This is in a way a rebooted AU of "Mirror, Mirror," and begins very in medias res; I assume that even in reboot fandom most are familiar with the premise of the mirror universe and that episode, but if you are not, Memory Alpha is your friend.

Summary: Placing trust in a handful of former imperial soldiers is hardly easy for a group of slave-bred Romulans on the Terran Empire's home world, even if the four humans may not be what they seem. It's hard enough to separate friend from foe among their own species, to confide in each other, to trust that they could be loved.

Book Two [WiP]

Characters/Pairings: Kirk, Uhura, Spock, Chapel, Sulu, Chekov, McCoy, Scotty, mirror-Kirk, mirror-Moreau, mirror-Spock. Kirk/Uhura, Scotty/OC, acknowledgments of a few other pairings.
Summary: After four of the ship's officers never returned from an away mission, Spock reluctantly assumed the role of captain on the Enterprise while mourning the absence of his closest companions. Jim Kirk is meanwhile becoming the Terran Empire's most wanted fugitive in a slowly transforming mirror universe. Both of their fates may be affected by the self-fulfilling prophecy of a man who has very little to lose.
Overall Warnings: Violence (including some torture), secondary character death. This has been a WIP for a long while so it will have some inconsistencies with STID (and obviously contains no spoilers for the second film).

Haha. I know.
I do eventually plan on writing something that would involve somewhat developing a mirror version of the reboot Kirk, and this mix sort of came out of where that's going, though in some ways I thought of this as a counterpart to the Jim Kirk mix I did way back, as it speculates on his younger days of running amok, stealin' and murderin' and generally being a pretty terrifying person, probably.

The lights are burned out in my room and it's going to drive me nuts all night. It's all fun and games until I start snacking on Excedrin. No, I didn't actually do that.

...trekreversebang! I don't know if this concept has been done for other fandoms, but it's a cool idea. Won't be signing up, but will definitely be stalking. I would recommend participation particularly because they have awesome mods. No, seriously. I am spoiled for big bang experiences for eternity because startrekbigbang was so on top of things. Probably a symptom of being part of one of the best fandoms ever, not that I'm biased or anything.

I'm so behind on my classes already it's not even funny. There was a week or so when I just didn't have my books yet so I was just mreh-ing through classes. Now I gotta catch up on the friggin' Iliad, among other things.

I'm repeating the same creative senior sem I took a year ago, which we can do as long as we pursue a different project, but it means I have to write another short story cycle and I've got nothing. I feel like the inventory of ideas I came in with as a freshman has all been exhausted. Unless I manage to turn what was formerly a novel idea into a series of short stories, which I am dangerously close to thinking is actually possible, but the ambiguity of said plot idea would be really frustrating to discuss with other people unless I get as completely awesome a group as I did last time; Unlikely. Also, I would have to approach the professor about the policies on expanding already completed work, etc., since I did write a short story involving the characters my sophomore year. Up until we actually start talking about what we're gonna, do, though, talking about the same Hemingway book again is so damn boring.
