My sister is now the proud owner of a life-size Spock cardboard stand-up. It's pretty fuckin' sexy. The best part is that even our dog acknowledges the badassery. Mom told me that when she saw it this morning, she took a good long whimpery look at it and then started backing up and barking at it for a few minutes.
My dad asked her where she got it and she mumbled something about mail-order husbands. Mom's like, "That's your husband? Isn't he kinda stiff?" Oh, knee-slapper.

Even though I hated Heroes at first, I, um, had my reasons to give it like, the third attempted go. While I'm still not blown away by it I finally got into the characters enough to get a little addicted, so...

Yes, you read that right. I skipped season two. What are you gonna do about it.

My initial reaction to this show overall is that it's really kind of a tease. I mean, the premise is a whole bunch of people who have super-powers and the show is called "Heroes." Going into this show, I think it's good to be warned that the main characters spend way too much time trying to stay alive and avert disasters to actually become super heroes. Claire saves a guy from a fire in the first episode? That's not foreshadowing. Yeah, they saved New York from being nuked, but none of them are on the prowl on a nightly basis looking for crooks to put down. Which...is good, I think, because if you're going to rip off X-Men you should probably take the concepts in a very different direction. The direction the show goes in is, "How, realistically, would people actually react to this happening in the world?" and answering that with situations that basically strip these characters of their freedom and any hope of having truly normal lives. Oh wait. That happens in pretty much every quality superhero story. Now I'm just confusing myself. I think basically what I'm saying here is that when you give us these very good, virtuous characters, it would be nice to see them kicking ass and doing very good, virtuous things. And that's all I've got for the comic-booky criticism, cause overall I think we get a lot of nice moments that challenge the characters in smaller, more human ways, which is overall the kind of storytelling I probably prefer.

Heavy on capslock after this point.

EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW IS WAY TOO HOT. OKAY, DANKO IS UNATTRACTIVE. AND PROBABLY A COUPLE OTHER PEOPLE, BUT SERIOUSLY WHERE DID THEY GET THIS ADORABLE/SMOKIN' CAST. I SHIP EVERYBODY. CLAIRE/SYLAR, MAKE IT HAPPEN, I DON'T CARE THAT HE'S REPEATEDLY VIOLATED/ATTACKED HER THROUGHOUT THE SERIES, I'M GOING TO HELL. Peter/Claire, I'm aware, is a thing, and I KIND OF GET IT. IT'S NOT MY FAULT WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT THEY'RE RELATED UNTIL A FEW EPISODES AFTER THEY MEET, JESUS. AND FURTHERMORE, I CAN'T EVEN SEE IT AS RAPEY BECAUSE MILO DOESN'T LOOK A DAY OVER 20 TO ME. I AM NORMALLY NOT SUCH A RAMPANT, PERVY SHIPPER, BUT I KEPT YELLING "THEY SHOULD DO IT!" FOR LIKE EVERY POSSIBLE PERMUTATION OF THE CAST. And LMAO that nobody seems to get laid EXCEPT THE VILLAAAIIINS.

SYLAR is the COOLEST MOTHERFUCKING VILLAIN I'VE EVER SEEN ON A TV SHOW, EVER. You feel sorry for him because his life sucks, but you're equally rooting for him when he's bad just cause he's so badass. Even without his power, he's smart as hell and knows how to manipulate people, and that's just awesome. P.S. He's so not dead. I wonder if any Doctor Who fans found the ending of "Invisible Thread" a little reminiscent of the Master and his pocketwatch, being all, "Look at this clock, man, I don't feel right."

Yeah, on the topic of Nathan's death: Thank you, writers, for forgetting that Claire's blood heals? Besides that, I had less of a problem with this twist than other people did, I think. The fact that Angela had a dream that she interpreted as Matt Parkman saving her son is what probably makes her and HRG able to justify to themselves that they're lying out their asses to Claire and Peter. But what I find interesting is that we didn't even see the dream, we don't know exactly what the allegory was, so she may have simply seen something that she didn't want to interpret as her son dying. I felt silly for being so emotional about it being the end of Sylar, despite the fact that I'm quite positive he'll be back somehow. But I hope they'll make this interesting, make Sylar go on believing that he's Nathan for a really long time and actually having more of a relationship with Claire. I just know that when Peter and Claire find out the truth and the shit hits the fan, it better be good.

Characters:

Peter: Why do I love him so much?
Claire: I totally underestimated her character at the start. She seems like an extremely sweet, accepting person.
Nathan: Is sympathetically defined by his relationship with his brother, and it works. I'm in denial. Let's just not...let's not.
Noah: Kill me, but...I like him. Sometimes he's a terrible person, but damn, what a GREAT character.
Sylar: Creepy-delicious.
Hiro: Cutest thing ever.
Ando: His and Hiro's friendship is the cutest thing ever.
Matt: I agree with this character.
The Haitian: Cool ability, interesting character, and super-hot, my god.
DL: Couldn't get over the bad acting.
Micah: Really didn't like him early on, turned out to be a BAMF by the end.
Nicky/Jessica: Frustrating.
Tracy: Eh.
Linderman: LAME.
that...child that Sylar road-tripped with: Annoying little jerk.
Elle: Hot and pretty sweet with Sylar, don't really have an opinion otherwise.
Angela: One fierce bitch.
Alice: WHAT.
Mr. Petrelli the non-dead: Fucking despicable.
Mohinder: Mr. Deep Narrator who has to say "I'm not quite exactly sure" instead of "I don't know," etc.
Maya: HAHAHA.
Danko: DIE IN A FIRE.
Lyle: Useless.
Daphne: Started out annoying but she's pretty adorable, and I nearly cried buckets when she died, that was unexpectedly beautiful.
Sandra: Unexpectedly cool even though, really, who the hell names their dog something like that.
Meredith: Pretty cool.

I think that's enough.

Muahaha! You have crossed over to the Heroes side of humanity!

I most definitely agree that everyone is just too damn good looking. Well I guess I'm a creep too because I have always wanted to see Claire and Sylar hook up.

"SYLAR is the COOLEST MOTHERFUCKING VILLAIN I'VE EVER SEEN ON A TV SHOW, EVER."

So very true...
