Make it work.
Aug. 21st, 2009 01:14 amI just added a bunch of people from my
vdkapenguin friends list because I'm narrowing down that journal to kinda super-personal and starting to update this one more. I haven't started actually de-friending over there yet, but eventually will.
I'm excited that Project Runway has started again, though I was quite a bit more excited about the All-Star Challenge special than the actual season premier.
And I'm completely shocked and happy about Daniel Vosovic winning. Let's just say I was a big fan and felt like he was totally snubbed back in the day. I watched season two after it was over and knew that Chloe was going to win the whole time and it was still heartbreaking...It's kind of surreal to see it made up to him. I also would've been really happy if Korto won, but I'm rolling my eyes at all the comments over at the Lifetime website about the verdict being racist. I don't think there's any bias going on except on the part of Tim Gunn, who has been the biggest Dan fanboy all the way, and he doesn't get any say. He was pretty vocal in his Podcast a long time ago about how he thought Daniel had deserved to win.
I have to say, though, I am pissed that they put Uli so close to the bottom just because she didn't put out what they were expecting. Have they completely forgotten how sophisticated her Fashion Week line was? They didn't knock it for not being "fun" enough back then. They were so bored with her doing the same thing over and over throughout the show and now they were practically complaining that she didn't use a print. I get that they needed to see her be true to her usual vision, but taking a brave step in a different direction shouldn't put her so far at the bottom. And putting her below Sweet P, who kept comparing the two of them and was more annoying than ever...UGH.
Other random thoughts:
-Chris March depressed me. It seems quite possible he has some kind of sleep disorder, and I don't like that they seemingly exploited that for humor on the show, even if he is the type to laugh at himself. He was usually such a bright presence on Runway, but he just seemed generally discouraged the whole time :(
-Santino was more annoying and hilarious than ever. At one point I just proclaimed, "He's become a parody of himself." I could watch an entire hour of the Santino vs. Jeffrey Battle of the Infamous Runway Assholes, as long as Jeffrey basically wins with awesomely dick revenge moves like, "See these extra needles in my bag that you don't get cause you just insulted me?"
-Uli's friggin' gorgeous now.
-Mychael Knight, the Fresh Prince called...
-I was sad Jeffrey's stuff wasn't better. And OMG man, lose the pornstache, it makes everything you are look trashy instead of remotely edgy.
-If they could've brought back Jerell Scott for this challenge, I would've been happy. I will be the first to say his gaudy-ass line was deservedly eliminated from the S5 finale, but from looking at his site he seems to have improved?:

Anyway, on the subject of the actual new episode, I will admit my friends and I were loopy from sitting in front of the TV too long and pretty much talked through half of it, but I can say that I was unexpectedly impressed with what most of the designers did. I'm not sure any of them are distinctive enough to not sort of directly remind me of past contestants...except for the one who got eliminated, though that's really not in a good way. I honestly expected them to keep Ari Fish around longer because she was weird enough, and probably had some point of view that could've been polished down a little. I can't even say whose I liked the best because we don't have the awesomeness that is Bravo's website coverage of the eps anymore. But I think it was...the black one. Maybe not.
