david bowie. I don't think I can even easily categorize the many different ways this man's music has affected me throughout my life. I was way into Labyrinth as a kid and later on from middle school through late high school I gradually absorbed a lot of his more influential albums, and now I'm into a lot of his more lesser-known weirder stuff, thanks to the Lost Highway OST.
film scores. My sister is something of film music snob and it rubs off on me. Occasionally some acquaintance will get into my car and giggle at me for listening to the Good, the Bad & the Ugly soundtrack with no apparent irony. I have a particular weakness for James Newton Howard and especially for Thomas Newman.
pilots. Listed in reference to Starbuck/Apollo and/or any pilots of BSG. Those things don't seem easy to drive.
the doctor's companions. Doctor Who fandom seems to be a great big companion bashing contest and it's almost some crime to like Rose, Martha, and Donna. I like them all. I can't even pick between Rose and Donna for my favorite (yes, I like Martha the least, gasp away).
the fall. One of my favorite movies. It has one of the most engaging non-romantic relationships I've ever seen developed in a film. And it's the one of the most beautiful-looking movies ever made.
crack!things. Crack!fic, crack!mixes, anything that proves that my fandoms have the funniest people around. (See: Blueberry Drill: An Ecstatic Sulu/Chekov DANGER MIX. Or a wee fic in which Holmes and Watson are turned into penguins.
francesca lia block. YA author of vague similes and lots of love for LA (or is it San Francisco?) Having not read any of her stuff for a few years, trying to describe her style or her characters is kind of like trying to recall a dream or something. She usually had characters with bizarre names and sometimes had touches of magical realism, but her stories always kind of brilliantly existed in this vacuum of mature emotion you wouldn't expect to get from the style. As a teenager I was really inspired by that stuff. Favorites: The Weetzie Bat books, Echo, Wasteland.
