Now that I have seen The Social Network.
Did they seriously nominate Jesse Eisenberg for an Oscar.
And not Andrew Garfield.

Just. What?

It's so weird to me that of all things, acting is something that is so subjective to us. If I forget that you're acting, you're a good actor. It's not rocket science. And yet everyone disagrees with each other all over the place. You can have guilty pleasure actors who you hate to admit you think can actually act when everyone else thinks he or she sucks, and you can be seriously unimpressed with people who are widely considered insanely talented. *shrug*

And somebody commented on IMDb basically saying, "It's not surprising that they would overlook everyone but Eisenberg, because everyone usually commends the really affected scene-eating roles where you're constantly reminded that they're acting; a lot of the times a good actor is by definition the one you don't notice as much." And I LOLed because, yeah, except, no. All there was to the character was being under-affected. And hell, it worked for the character, but I don't think it was anywhere above and beyond an actor's usual gig to make it work.

Anyway. Despite not usually having some place to regularly be, I'm feeling pretty stir-crazy because of the snow days.
My dad actually had to leave early yesterday so that he could make it all the way to Memphis by ass o'clock way early this morning, because his band got accepted into a national make that international blues competition, and I'm quite relieved he didn't end up in a ditch. And I DIDN'T EVEN HEAR ABOUT THIS UNTIL YESTERDAY. I found out a while back that the guy producing their album is from Hum (who are only like regionally all that famous, I think, but they had one hit). Their album is also already at like #16 on the roots music airplay charts (and stop and think about how unpopular the genre is before you get too amazed, but STILL). What the hell, Dad? Good luck, Dad?

I am going to write fic and watch Modern Family and eat chocolate for the rest of the evening.

Fucking RIGHT?????!!!!!

The first time I watched it, I disliked everything about the movie except Andrew Garfield and the soundtrack, both of which I completely adored (and okay, occasionally the script...the dialogue was great and all but THE STORY I had a lot of issues with). Then I rewatched it and liked it better overall, BUT STILL.

Anyway. ROCK ON, YOUR DAD!

Hell, even Armie Hammer (the Winklevai, lol) I would've thought deserved a nom more than Jesse did. IDK, IDK. It was quite good but not MIND-BOGGLING.

And :D He hasn't called, so I don't know how they did. I'm too awkward with my dad for him to realize that I'm curious about his shit, haha.

HEEEE funny you should mention him, right after I posted that last comment I decided to re-watch the movie, because even with all the Issues I had I seem to have developed some real fondness for it, and as soon as they showed up I wanted to come back and add "OH YEAH I FORGOT Armie Hammer was really good too." "We don't need to hire someone to beat him up! I'm 6'5, 220, and there's two of me." :D

aw, really? Me & my dad are groovy, it's my mom I'm always butting heads with. I really dug the poster of his band you put up on tumblr btw, I kinda wanted to reblog it but like...it's not my dad. (Awkward-turtle FOR LIFE!)

And his name is ARMIE HAMMER, which really amuses me because it sounds like either a superhero or a porn star, I'm not sure.
And LOL, Winklevi, not Winklevai. That awkward moment when you've been bullshitting xenolinguistics for your Star Trek WIP and start pluralizing words like Romulans do.

In some ways my relationship with my dad is a lot better than with my mom, like we have way more to talk about and kinda the same sense of humor, we've just never exactly been close. We don't have the most ~mutually supportive discourse~, is how I would put it.
Haha, I do really like that poster, I'm gonna have to ask them who designed all their shit. Watch it end up being my brother who did it, that bastard can be stealth-artsy sometimes.
