1. OMGS GAETA GOT SHOT. SAM YOU IDIOT. Really, though, it made a hell of an opening, and it's weird to think that it took something like that to make everybody put things in perspective and come up with an actual urgent plan. But later on I almost wanted to cry when Felix told Helo not to let Coddle take his leg. God.
2. *sigh* Nevermind, Sam, I can never stay mad at you for more than like ten minutes. Sam was overall pretty cool in this episode; I was really touched with how he interacted with the dying Sharon around the end. And he even opposed Kara over the murderous six; as it turned out it was kind of understandable why she freaked the hell out and killed the red shirt, but they couldn't just let that go right away. The most hilarious comment by one of the people I was watching this ep with was, "NO. NO. I REALLY DON'T THINK IT'S A FUCKING GOOD IDEA FOR SAM TO PUT HIS FUCKING HAND IN THE FUCKING SHIT." You know what I'm talking about, but what the hell is it called? Anyway, I have no idea what to assume would have happened if Sam actually did it, but I really liked the whole situation of him actually being on a cylon ship knowing he's a cylon. . .And his whole look of "Um. . ." when everybody concluded from the hybrid's words that the final five know where earth is? Pretty amusing.
3. One of my favorite parts of this episode was Athena giving that retort to all the silly Sharons that wanted to rebel against the sixes. Cause if there is any one lesson that the members of Galactica have learned, it's that you can't just pull a mutiny every time somebody you're supposed to work with does something you don't agree with. The human race has been spitting at each other and disagreeing about how to do things since day one, but the fact that the fleet is a family with a lot of close relationships going around is the only thing that keeps them from blowing each other apart. Tell that to all the skinjobs that run around saying that it's human nature to inevitably destroy each other with useless violence when so far the only facet of the human condition that the cylon race as a whole has managed to achieve, is war. Athena is one of the few cylons who appears to fully understand and embrace love, and I loved seeing her advise her former people that they won't be able to survive if they don't establish a sense of family.
4. I thought it was very intriguing that the only presence of Gaius in this episode was just his voice heard on the radio through the sick bay scenes. It was really haunting to hear his sermon over the scene when Roslin found Emily's empty bed.
5. Loved the ending, loved the ending, loved the ending. When that basestar jumped right up on Demetrius's ass all I could do was laugh with enthusiasm. And while I'm also griping a little about the kiss that was unexplainably missing in the last scene with Bill and Laura, it was extremely sweet. I'm reeling a little with the lack of Lee in this episode, but I'm glad that Bill showed up at least, because it would've felt weird to not have interaction between him and Laura with everything she's going through.
LOVED THIS EPISODE. Best one this season since 4x01.
