BSG Episode Commentary: "The Oath"
Jan. 30th, 2009 08:12 pm1. It looks like Starbuck really doesn't have any friends right now except for Lee, and he's not a pilot anymore so she's pretty much alone all the time. I'm extremely disappointed that even Hot Dog was a dick to her; I don't think she was trying to give him a hard time, she was just being Starbuck. I mean, Hot Dog. He always luved her. Add him to the list of Gaeta and Racetrack = characters that have proved to be not-so-awesome lately when I previously had soft spots for them.
2. Let's talk about Kara and Lee acting badass together again, cause I've been looking forward to this ever since the clips of them holding the heat side-by-side came out in the season preview. When Starbuck started to smell that something was awry and go for the ammo, I knew we were about to see some of the old pilot spirit come out, and when she saved Lee's life she could've been the exact Starbuck from any previous season. Oh, and Lee and Kara's heat-of-violence smooch, while it came out a bit awkward, was in a much more fun context than I would've expected from the clip we've seen. He's all we can't do it alone we can't we can't, and she kisses some frakking sense into him, like, 'We're Starbuck and Apollo, remember?' But I'm a little nervous about Lee's reaction...It was sort of, "Now, hold on, Kara." (I DON'T WANT TO BE PESSIMISTIC ABOUT THIS SHIP BUT I'M TRYING TO PROTECT MY HEART, OK).
3. That bitch Seelix. Grr. Grr. 'I always wondered why you didn't want in my pants, must be because you're a TOASTER whine whine bitch whine.' Poor Anders, jesus.
4. Very interesting scene of that handful of cylons + Helo all thrown into the same brig cell. I wish, so very badly, they'd get Caprica something else to wear ASAP. As far as all that goes, I'm extremely concerned about Athena's safety, mostly because it's looked to me for several episodes that she would be a likely death.
5. As usual, some extremely interesting stuff was happening with Gaius, from his straightforward talk with Roslin to trying to talk some sense into Gaeta. And: "No, you can keep the statue." LMAO.
6. Even though there's a huge absence of Tory lately, I don't find myself even remotely curious about what's happening with her. This seems to indicate she's a weak character. But it looks like she will come into play next week in an important way, so we'll see.
7. Roslin/Adama. It was most evidently not wise for Laura to start enjoying her last days of life to their fullest without, you know, resigning first. Shirking her responsibilities as a leader has clearly gotten everybody into trouble, but I think she made up for it with her noble moment of gutsiness at the end. That kiss was very, very sweet, and I frakking loved how Lee and Kara started looking a little uncomfortable like they were seeing their parents make out.
8. Zarek used to be such a captivating character. Now I just find him extremely fake and annoying. It's one thing to vie for power in a population that has some semblance of hope, but he's turning into a practically aimless shit-disturber at this point.
9. Bill and Saul were such BAMFs. If Tigh's dead, it's a perfect death. Hell yes.
10. Next week: Looks like the Raptor Laura's on is headed for a basestar, which should be loads of fun. It's been a while since we've seen what the hell is going on with the cylon ships.
stupid comments: glad to see Laura with a prettier wig, but what the hell is Leoben doing with his hair?

Date: 2009-01-31 05:25 am (UTC)I agree! Saul Tigh is exactly the man he wants to be, and he's not afraid of no stinking death, especially if he believes he'll go back to his Ellen.

Date: 2009-01-31 05:57 am (UTC)I agree about Adama/Roslin. Their timing is ill-chosen because the fleet should've come first, but they'll make up for it.
Zarek and Gaeta are just pissing me off.
