BSG episode commentary: DAYBREAK PT. 1
Mar. 15th, 2009 01:14 amFirst off, Kara/Lee shippers/people ecstatic about character histories, etc. may want to read my essay-length (oops!) post in response to the speculation that's going around regarding, well, mainly the pigeon flashback, that I posted in
sasa_hq here.
I'm pretty incoherent about how much I loved this episode, but some comments:
I want to have babies with every single one of the flashbacks in the beginning. About five minutes into this episode it kind of finally kicked in how fucking AWESOME it was that we were getting all this back story, and I think it took that long because, well, it delivered on the exact level of everything I could've imagined it would be and I felt like I'd already watched this episode merely in hoping it would exist. And I didn't even know about or buy into a lot of the rumors that were apparently out there indicating we would get all these flashbacks. I miss Gaius/Six so getting such an unexpected perspective on the beginning of that relationship was probably my favorite thing. Of course I loved seeing Kara and Lee meet, but I think they've only teased at the surface of the story they're planning to tell with that history, so I don't quite want to comment on it. Except, wow. After developing so much fanon over the pre-series Zak/Kara/Lee relationship, seeing the three of them actually interact was weirdly very emotional for me. I'm really hoping we'll get more of this, preferably something taking place when Lee has known Kara a bit longer (pleeaase!).
This whole thing about rescuing baby Hera provokes some mixed feelings in me, because despite the fact that we know Hera is really important it's really hard for me to get over how extremely unwise it is for them to go try and save her. But, oh lords, Lee back in a jock smock will make me very happy.
Bear did such a great job with this episode. The stuff he composed for the opening sequences was lovely. Loved hearing Baltar's theme a la "Someone to Trust" again.
