The BSG fandom in general is getting on my nerves lately. It's never been my favorite, actually, since I've never really felt like the LJ communities had quite what I needed for a place to flail even when the show was still airing. These days it seems like most people are either only there for their precious ship or only there to bash a ship (or so you'd think by the way they talk) or to bash the ending of the show, which all is okay from time to time but makes for a pretty disgruntled/unfriendly atmosphere. If somebody attempts to enlighten me on why Kara and Lee are OMG LIKE INCESTUOUS one more time I might...you know, kick something. Not that I feel I can relate to a lot of the K/L shippers either, sadly, but that's an entirely different rant that it would be pretty pointless to go on. I'm just generally weirded out by how my reasons for liking the pairing are drastically different from that of 90% of that sect of the fandom. ("Apollo is Starbuck's reason for living"?...Are you serious?) And while we're on the shipping, BSG is a surprisingly vanilla-conventional community of shippers...Again, people's things are their things, but a lot of people have their one canon OTP and nothing else, it seems, and of course the outcome of that pairing is their main criteria on which they judge the outcomes of the show. I admit, I myself am not very inclined to really run with a bunch of BSG pairings the way I am with Trek, but you'd think there would be way more unconventional pairing fic out there in general. I mean, for example, I encounter people all the time who sort of like Starbuck/Helo but I've hardly ever been able to find good fic of it. And I'm not usually one to actually complain about things like this, but it's just one thing on top of the other that makes for an extremely SRS BSNS type atmosphere, unless you really know where to find the right people. I've met some really funny and talented people in the comms, don't get me wrong, but the general friggin' miasma of the communities as a whole is negative, negative, negative.
Anyway, if you can't get over your post-finale bitterness for a show - I find myself asking this in many fandoms - why stick around? Is it just to read predictable slews of happy-ever-after fic? Whatever. I give up. Caprica time.

And whoo, somebody finally put out a Caprican Buccaneers t-shirt on cafepress: http://www.cafepress.com/+cbucs_dark_tshirt,391303386. WANT.

I watched BSG for the first time about a month or two ago. Wasn't too shabby. ;) I'm interested to know how the show turns out. How many seasons are there?

I enjoy Placebo immensely, but I was originally referring to the Kirk FML. I do like the placebo one as well. :)

I have been only peripherally involved in the BSG fandom, am not committed to any OTP (but I do like Helo/Athena and Roslin/Adama)and have to admit to being somewhat turned off by the bitterness some fans express about the ending..because OMG, it was not the ending they wanted. I actually quite liked the finale, and felt that it was open ended enough that I could fill in the blanks in any way I wanted. My attitude is that it's like a book; the author writes the story and the ending is the one he or she decides is appropriate to the story. A good story stays true to itself, no matter what the reader/viewer wants.

I've never even visited any of the BSG communities - because I knew there'd be people like what you describe there, and I wasn't going to knowingly subject myself to it.

As for the ending, I actually liked it quite a lot. I mean, there were bits in it that I felt mildly disatisfied with, but as a total I think it was great, because it *fit* the show. But I'm like that with everything - if an ending fits a story, no matter how I might have liked it to be otherwise, I'll never think it's a horrible ending. (and, really, the bit with Adama and Roslin? I cried my eyes out. for that alone, the ending was brilliant)

(also, I like the buddy thing that Starbuck and Helo had going on, and I'd never considered them as a romantic couple, but now that you put the idea in my head, I'd say it's interesting. :) )

Considering how extremely many loose ends they had to tie up, I was pretty impressed with how much emphasis on characters there still was at the end. Stuff like Baltar's "I know about farming" moment were so simple and potently emotional at the same time; it generally had a great feel for the ending of the show. Far and away people are the most unhappy about the loss of Starbuck, and the only reason I was unhappy with that was the kind of rushed closure we got for her character. I just remember feeling generally devastated after the finale aired, but not necessarily in a bad way.

As for Kara/Karl, there's a handful of shippers out there that speculate on their relationship prior to the series, that they may have fooled around a little during their academy days, presuming they knew each other then. I always thought their friendship was pretty adorable, and always kinda thought it wouldn't exactly floor me if they'd dated/hooked up at some point, LOL.

yeah, the Starbuck thing was what disatisfied me. But, what can you do? Like you said, they had so many things to deal with... (And Baltar's moment was just... yeah. I actually felt sorry for him)

re: Helo/Starbuck. Well, apparently the actor who played Helo (I know his name, I just can't spell it :P) once talked about how he and Sackhoff had sat down and made up between them the entire relationship between their two characters, so that they could play them. If I remember correctly, there were hints that Starbuck and Helo might have, in fact, had something between them at the academy. :P

...how he and Sackhoff had sat down and made up between them the entire relationship between their two characters. Haha, that's pretty cool and seems to explain how fluidly they played that relationship even though the canon didn't explain much about it. Tamhoh and Katee are just so cute...
